After more than seven years at Auto Express I decided to go it alone. There were two reasons; I wanted to get back to doing more writing – my first love and something I did less and less of as the years went by. I wanted to be out there as a journalist again, not sat at a desk as a manager.

The second reason was my family; I’ve got a wife and two young children. Being associate editor on Britain’s biggest selling weekly car magazine meant I missed an awful lot of bedtimes over the years.
